Hey, my name is PipPip, and I’m here to tell you guys a little something about my sad!stuck cosplay experience at Anime California

So for Day 2 and 3 of this convention, I decided to be dead Tinkerbull and want to be human Cronus. These cosplays took some time and effort to put together and I use to love bringing these characters to life. At first I thought it was a cool concept and a unique cosplay— something that would get a few aww’s here and there. But I was wrong. Throughout the weekend, I was slapped around and abused by people who found my cosplays sad

That was their only excuse for assaulting me. I made them sad. I told these people repeatedly to stop but my attempts at ceasing their actions were futile. At one point, I was even kicked in the back of my leg while I was having a conversation with several of my friends who were all witnesses to this person’s heinous act. I would have gone straight to the con ops about the situation to report the problem if it wasn’t the last day of the con and that person had already left the hotel.

Later that day, the person who had kicked me, messaged me saying “did i hurt your feelings today???????” Clearly they didn’t realize they had hurt a little more than JUST my feelings. They damaged me PHYSICALLY. They damaged me EMOTIONALLY. They even damaged my spirit to do sad’stuck cosplay EVER AGAIN for a convention.

PLEASE, LET THIS SERVE AS A REMINDER TO ALL CON GOERS: IF SOMEONE IS COSPLAYING A CHARACTER THAT MAKES YOU UPSET, THAT DOES NOT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO HIT/ INSULT/ SHAME THEM FOR IT. THAT IS INCREDIBLY RUDE, EXTREMELY UNACCEPTABLE, AND YOU WILL BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY. IF YOU THINK THAT’S OK IN ANY WAY, YOU NEED TO GROW UP AND LEARN THAT NOT EVERYONE IS OUT TO PLEASE YOU.

I recently received word through Facebook that this is one of the big reasons why some of my friends are scared to cosplay at conventions in the first place. When I heard about this, it really got to me. This is all the more reason to report anybody who assaults/ insults cosplayers for their own immature reasoning. By doing this, it will create a safer environment for new cosplayers entering the community.

Be a responsible cosplayer/ con goer and please report those bad eggs so people that are much more deserving of attending, may join us happily without being afraid of what might happen to them. Thank you.

i remember once i was walking to class near this group of guys and one of them saw his girlfriend and one of his friends was like “c’mon man bros before hoes” and the guy looked him dead in the eye and said “she’s the bro and y’all bitches are the hoes” before going to talk to his girlfriend and i have never seen a group of guys in sagging jeans and ridiculous shoes look so offended
